Summer’s here in full force, and whenever the weather’s nice (and it’s possible to safely do so) we love taking a trip to the beach! Being outside in the sunshine, going for a refreshing dip, listening to the crashing of the waves or even the sound of the seagulls, is a special type of therapy if you ask us! However, long days spent on the sand require a bit of preparation to optimize your enjoyment. That’s where the beach bag comes in. A sand-and-sunshine staple, the tote you bring with you on your beach day should be filled with the things you’ll need to make the most of your time.
Here are some things we recommend:
Sunscreen: We don’t leave our homes without it in the summer, and when it comes to long days on the beach, we recommend a waterproof cream in at least a factor 50+. Be sure to reapply regularly throughout the day!
A good book: When we’re not in the water, chances are we’re relaxing on land with a good summer read. We like to keep our beach day literature light and fun, and we recommend checking out this list if you’re looking for a good beach book. If reading isn’t your thing, why not try an audiobook or podcast?
A big, soft towel: This may seem obvious, but we’ve forgotten our towels too many times not to make a note of it! Our ideal beach towel is one large enough to lie down on and one that also comes in a fun summertime print!
A sun hat: Sun hats are stylish and add yet another layer of protection from the sun. They’re perfect for throwing on once you come out of the water and will even help to keep you cool.
A reusable water bottle or two: The sun and heat can really take it out of you, and we want to make sure we stay hydrated! While lots of popular beaches will have refreshment stands, we like bringing our own water to make sure we don’t get caught thirsty and unprepared!
Sunglasses: Again, like the hat, sunglasses will help protect your eyes from the sun and make it easier to see. We’ve all experienced the irritation of having sun in the eyes and having to squint so we can (barely) make out what it is we’re looking at, and sunglasses alleviate that hassle. The views are too beautiful to take the risk of not being able to properly enjoy them!
A cover-up: After the beach, we may want to head out for a bite to eat or some refreshing drinks, and it’s always wise to have a cover-up on hand, something we can easily throw on and spend the rest of the day in. Most cover-ups are made to be worn over swimsuits, but if you want to change out of your swimsuit, we recommend bringing necessary undergarments and an outfit instead! And don’t forget the wet bag for you swimsuit! Our beautiful, sparkling jewels are ideal to put on after a day at the beach, and can instantly take your look from day to evening.
Snacks: Beach days can be long and therefore it’s wise to have some sustenance at the ready to keep your energy levels up. Opt for snacks that won’t melt in the heat (I.e. anything with chocolate, dairy, etc) and are easy to eat. We think granola bars or fruit make the perfect beach snack and couldn’t be more convenient— just toss in your bag and go!
A travel-sized first aid kit: Accidents can happen anywhere, even during your special summer outing. A first aid kit will not only help protect broken skin, it will keep you from having to throw in the towel and leave the beach in the case of a minor injury. If you have disinfectant, Neosporin and a band aid on hand, you can deal with tiny scrapes, no problem!
An extra pair of flip flops: Flip flops are so inexpensive, so light, and so unobtrusive that it’s easy to keep a spare pair on hand should you need them. If you’ve ever dealt with a broken flip flop, you know what we mean.
The above beach bag essentials should help prepare you for an incredible day on the water!
